TweakUI missing "Repair My Documents Icon" etc

G

Guest

I can no longer find the "Repair My Documents Icon" (or "Repair My Videos
Icon" and the like) feature under the Repair tab in TweakUI XP, even when I
run TweakUI in an admin account. The only visible options in Repair are:
"Rebuild Icons", "Repair Font folder", "Repair hotkeys", "Repair Regedit",
and "Repair Temporary Internet Files".

I am running Windows XP MCE Professional SP2, and I have disabled the
built-in Administrator account (in line with Best Practice) and setup a
separate admin account for use when necessary. I have tried reinstalling
TweakUI, to no avail.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Best,
doonyakka

Because Repair My Documents Icon is not a choice.

TweakUI version 2.10.0.0/Repair has these functions...

Rebuild icons
Rebuilds all Explorer icons and removes unused Explorer icons from memory.
Rebuild icons when you find that Explorer is displaying the wrong icon for a
program or shortcut. Note that repairing icons may cause icons to lose any
custom positions.

Repair font folder
Restores the functionality of the Font folder. Repair the font folder when
you find that the Font folder has begun acting like a normal folder.

Repair My Music icon
Restores the custom icon to the My Music folder.

Repair My Pictures icon
Restores the custom icon to the My Pictures folder.

Repair My Videos icon
Restores the custom icon to the My Videos folder.

Repair regedit
Repair Regedit when you find that Regedit is not showing all the columns in
its view.

Repair unread mail count
Resets the unread mail count for the current user on the Welcome screen (if
friendly logon is enabled) and in any other applications which follow the
Windows unread mail count procedure.

Question: One of my special folders (e.g. My Documents, My Music, My
Pictures, Shared Documents, etc) has lost its name, lost its icon, or has
the wrong Task Pane template, how can I get it back?

Answer: This problem can occur if the hidden desktop.ini file in the special
folder is corrupt or missing. Here are the steps to fix this problem:

Hi Wesley, thanks for your reply.

You're right about "Repair My Documents Icon", I was just listing the
options as I (incorrectly) remembered them. My point was that only the
general "Rebuild icons" is there in my TweakUI; none of the other "Repair
[folder] icon" options show up. Which is weird, right?

I'll try the tips you suggest, but I'd be interested to find out why TweakUI
is behaving strangely.

Cheers,

UPDATE: I tried the ShellIconFix utility and the suggested manual fix, but
the utility won't run under my user account - it requires admin privileges -
and the desktop.ini in My Documents is exactly as specified in the
instructions (modulo the user name). The Keith Miller fix doesn't work
either. Finally, the Customize tab is missing from My Documents Properties,
probably because of restrictions on the user account.

Any further suggestions much appreciated.

doonyakka,

From rereading your first post, Repair hotkeys is an option with TweakUI
version 1.33.0.0. TweakUI version 1.33 is intended for Windows Me, Windows
2000, Windows 98, and Windows 95. It is not intended for Windows XP.

TweakUI 1.33 looks similar to this picture...

OK, I finally worked out where I was going wrong. Although I had the latest
version of TweakUI installed all along, I was accessing TweakUI via the

TweakUI XP being an .exe. Problem solved!

Thanks so much for all your help, Wesley. You are very helpful and thorough

Hi doonyakka,

There is probably a tweakui.cpl file left over from 1.33. There is not
tweakui.cpl file for XP's version. You may want to get rid of it.
TweakUI.exe is the file for the later versions

To start TweakUI...
Start | Run | Type: tweakui | Click OK
or...
Start Menu\Programs\Powertoys for Windows XP\Tweak UI

You can also add TweakUI to the Control Panel with
xp_AddTweakUItoControlPanel.vbs from
here...
1. Add XP TweakUI Icon to the Control Panel
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

xp_AddTweakUItoControlPanel.vbs adds...
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{D14ED2E1-C75B-443c-BD7C-FC03B2F08C17}
and
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\
Explorer\ControlPanel\NameSpace\{D14ED2E1-C75B-443c-BD7C-FC03B2F08C17}

{D14ED2E1-C75B-443c-BD7C-FC03B2F08C17} is the CLSID for TweakUIXP.

How can I add TweakUI to the Windows XP Control Panel?
