Tweak UI

About two weeks ago, I upgraded Windows 98 to Windows XP
Pro. I tried to uninstall old version of TweakUI installed
while running Win98. It did not show up on the list in the
Add & Remove Programs in Control Panel. I did a search and
deleated all tweakui files. Then installed TweakUI for
Windows XP. Now when I shutdown and restart, I get the
following message: ERROR LOADING TWEAKUI.CPL THIS
SPECIFIED MODULE COULD NOT BE FOUND.

I ran msconfig and found on the Setup Tab the following
COMMAND line: RUNDLL32.EXE TWEAKUI.CPL, TweakMeUp at the
LOCATION: HKLM\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\WINDOWS\CURRENT
VERSION\RUN. I looked at this location in the Registry,
there was no key or value. When I unchecked this item and
rebooted, there was no error message. Can this be deleted
from the "Start Up" so I can use "Normal Startup" instead
of "Selective Startup"?

If I remember correctly, TweakUI has a uninstaller built-in
the downloaded files. It installed to the control panel.
You should have been able to right click and select
uninstall.

You need to reinstall and then remove properly.

Hi Steve,

Depends on which version you installed:

The newer one for XP needs SP1 installed. Both versions can be downloaded
from here on line 246 (right hand side)
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

To remove the previous install (older version):

elete these 4 files
c:\windows\system32\tweakui.cpl
c:\windows\help\tweakui.hlp
c:\windows\help\tweakui.cnt
c:\windows\inf\tweakui.inf

Then type msconfig in Start - Run and uncheck the line on the start up tab
that has rundll32 tweakui.cpl,TweakMeUp

Or use: TweakUI version 1.33 Uninstaller
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/scripts_desc/xp_tweak_uninst.htm

To clean up msconfig:

Clear Disabled Items from Msconfig Startup (Line 148)
