TUSL2 USB bios detection

David A. Cull

Hi all,

I have a few machines (Intel Celeron 900MHz/TUSL2 MoBo) which I am
trying to image from a USB HDD. The current BIOS revision is 1012.
Image software is Norton Ghost 8.0.

With all the legacy USB support enabled in the BIOS, Ghost still cannot
find the USB HDD when booted from floppy. The Ghost boot disks provide
USB drivers.

My question is should I expect any BIOS revision of the TUSL2 to support
a USB HDD? It doesn't need to boot from the USB HDD, just read the
image files from it.

The USB HDD device has been tested, and works on other machines.

Cheers,

David Cull~

You can try bios version 1014 Beta 001 from Asus' website
for the TUSL2, but don't get your hopes up. I've never seen
an Intel 815-based board that supports USB hard drives.

David,

I went through the same thing when trying to image my daughter's laptop
to a usb drive. It turns out that there are a number of different ASPI
managers and none of them seem to work with all hardware.

Anyhow, I set up a boot floppy that loads 3 different ASPI managers
(medialogic, panasonic, and workbit) in sequence. None of them seem to
work by themselves, but when they are all loaded it will detect my IBM
travelstar hooked to a USB 2.0 adapter.

I just tried it out on my CUSL2 and it worked fine so it should work on
your TUSL2.

I've posted an image of the boot floppy to alt.binaries. I could send it
to you as well

Thanks Gary and Rick for your help. I would appreciate it if you could
email me the floppy image, as I don't have binary groups on this Usenet
server.

Cheers,
David~
