Turning off a laptop built-in mouse

Bugsy

My desktop crashed a week ago and I am now using my Dell Inspiron 6000 as a
temporary workstation, running Windows XP Home.

I may be using it for a month or so until I can find a new desktop
(hopefully with XP Home installed).

My problem is (well, actually an anoyance), I have a Logitech wireless mouse
I am using with the laptop. Is there a way to TEMPORARILY disable the
Dell's built in mouse?

I looked through the Control Panel options (I am using XP Home) but didn't
see an option for disabling the built in mouse.

Thanks,

Thanks,
My wireless mouse has an check box option to "disable the built in
mousepad if this mouse is active". The only issue is that it never
turns on the mousepad if I turn off the wireless. But that may be
mouse mouse drivers. Just look at the wireless mouse settings. Not
Windows. You may not.
PS I too have I6000 laptop.

Thanks,

The manual for your laptop indicates that you should be able to turn off the
touch pad through the Mouse Properties applet in Control Panel. According to the
manual there should be a Touch Pad tab on the applet where you can adjust the
touch pad settings.

Just out of curiosity, have you installed the software that came with your
Logitech mouse? This software may have replaced the default Windows mouse
applet. You might want to uninstall the Logitech program and see if that helps.

Good luck

Thanks,
I have 3 notebooks. Two are Averatec. I could not disable the touchpad
and the touchpad driver usurps the Logitech setpoint. Could not set
the default for the wheel click. If I uninstalled the touchpad driver,
it promptly re-installed it. After several months of fiddling around I
raised the hood and disconnected the touchpad. No more problems.
The third is a Compaq (with Vista) that I seldom use. It has a button
above the touchpad to turn it off. Nice touch.
