Turn Sounds Off

I cannot get the sounds off my computer. When I log on I hear the dialing, it
says my name and goodbye when I log off thru the speakers. I have gone into
control panel, then sounds, speech and audio and put the settings to none,
applied them, logged off then back on. I still have the sounds. I am also
playing a cd and the sound comes thru the speakers as the same time. I have a
Dell dimension E510 computer w/window xp.

Try this: Start\Run\and type: "regedit" (no quotes) and hit Enter\browse
to: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Sound\ and disable with "no" the value
named "Extended sounds".
