TURN OFF SYSTEM SPEAKER

A

aaron.kempf

so seriously here.

I have a desktop and I need to make it so that it never beeps again.
I work in an open office and I can't have my computer beep.

I seriously just want to know how to make Windows never beep.
I swear-- i never had this problem until XP.

I dont have a soundcard in my machine.. So i'm talking about the case
speaker; not my big speakers
I can't even make it to 'Mute All' since Windows is stupid enough to
not let me into the volume control since I dont have my sound card
installed.

it just drives me crazy

i mean-- how did microsoft _accidently_ make this so difficult? I
think that it must be deliberate... they're trying to screw with my
head or something.

WHY DIDNT ANYONE NOTICE THIS BEFORE WINDOWS XP SHIPPED?

THIS IS A BUG IN WINDOWS AND MICROSOFT WON'T FIX IT.

I have tried 3 different things:

a) disabling the system speaker in device manager
b) mute all
c) no sounds scheme

I just want to know what drunk Project Manager at Microsoft is
responsible for this crap..
because I've had enough of this crap; and I want you to personally come
and fix this computer.

You will be glad to know that no one from Microsoft will be coming to your
office to silence your computer. In any event, Microsoft just supplies the
operating system, somebody else built your computer. In addition, Microsoft
has nothing to do with these groups. But the good news is that there are
two very good replies to your post!

Pull the speaker wire off the motherboard. It's a red/black wire, 4 pin
connector, with the red on one end and the black on the other end.

There are several solutions, some already mentioned. Here's two more:
1. Earplugs.
2. Don't use programs that beep (XP itself doesn't)

Aaron;
Exactly when is it beeping?
What is happening to cause the beep?
Some beeps have nothing to do with Windows and may occur regardless the
operating system used but instead depend on the BIOS settings.

Don't play games that beep during work hours.

Use the computer for what it is meant for in the office. The office does not have to know that you are doing something else besides their work on it. It is a Bios setting that you need to disable. Contact the IT person responsible for your system and try to explain

I bet you have the chime that goes ding ding ding when your key is in the
ignition or the lights are left on disconnected too.

And don't try to blame it on XP

The fix? find the little speaker, usually toward the front of the case.
cut the wire going to it.

hahahaha yeah seriously-- like im trying to play games lol

Windows beeps all the time.

When i copy a file and i type in a bad char-- pretty much whenever i
get a messagebox

just wish that there was an easy way to shut it off.. i mean.. why
doesn't mute all do this?

Open the case, trace the lead from the case speaker to the motherboard and disconnect it. If it happens to be on the motherboard, check the BIOS settings. Some computers allow it to be disabled there.

no seriously.

i work for a company; I am a consultant.

im not going to crack the case on the computer get real.
there has to be a way to shut this off in windows; i found it once upon
a time.

You can turn off the system speaker with TweakUI (within windows).

It's called 'Beep on Error'.

Uncheck that, and you'll silence the system speaker...

Outside of windows, short of a bios switch that most computers don't have
nowadays, cracking the case and unplugging the system speaker would be your
best bet (or you can snip the wire).

Did you look in the BIOS for this setting?
