Turn off shading when printed Tracked Changes

A user at work brought this question to me yesterday: when you have Track
Changes turned on, and you print, is there any way to turn off the gray-bar
shading on the right-hand side of the page. Because of the large number of
documents he'll be editting and commenting on of others, he is concerned
about toner usage.

What version of Word are you using? For Word 2003, on the Reviewing toolbar
(for Word 2007 using the Reviewing tab) click Show Markup and then click
Markup Area Highlight.

If the Markup area highlight is turned off then it shouldn't print. Note I
can only verify this for Word 2007 but it should be the same for Word 2003.

Beth,

it is in W2007, and that worked perfectly - thanks! I saw that toggle, but I
guess I thought it related to the highlight on the actual changed area in the
document verses the panel. Guess you can tell I also don't work that often
with Tracked Changes!

Thanks again,
mike

Glad it worked for you. :)

Essentially, Word prints what you see on the screen. There are a few
exceptions, such as formatting marks and hidden text, or page background,
but most of the time you can rely on the general behavior.
