TS Video Resolution

T

Tom

We have an application that allowed us to fax invoices, quotes, etc directly
from the app. Everything worked until we upgraded the program.

Basically the program creates a TIF and places it in a 'watched' folder.
The fax server takes the file in the folder it's watching and processes
them.

The problem is that the TIF's were being created completely black. I found
that units with the Color Quality set to 32-bit worked properly. All others
failed.

So the question is can TS be set to 32-bit? Under the MSTSC options the max
appears to be 24 bit.

Thanks,
Tom

No. RDP maxes out at 24 bit color. If you require 32 bit color then you'll
need to use a program like Citrix MetaFrame and their ICA Client which
supports 32 bit color and higher resolutions than 1600x1200.

Just a sidenote, what you're referring to is the color depth, i.e. 8, 16,
24, 32 bit, whereas the screen resolution refers to the size of the display
in pixels, i.e. 800x600, 1024x768, 1280x1024, 1600x1200.

If I were you I'd revert back to the previous version, or talk with the
manufacturer to see if there's a way to fix the problem, as MetaFrame is not
cheap.

Thanks Pat.

I am aware of the difference in color depth and screen resolution but thanks
anyway.

I found that the GotomyPC program (which is basically Citrix) allows the
color depth required.

Can anyone tell me what the MAXIMUM color depth and screen resolution is with
Windows Server 2000 Terminal Service? I realize it depends upon the video
card being able to display it but just how high can it go?

Hi Vera,

That's the answer I expected but not the one I had wished for. Is there any
way to get more than 256 colors in Server 2000 or do we need to go up to
Server 2003? Citrix is out of the question due to budget constraints.
