Trying to update styles

Hello,

When I click on the down arrow for a style in the Styles and Formatting
pane, the Select All option is greyed out. It also says "Not Currently Used"
and no matter where I put my mouse pointer in the document, it will not let
me Select All instances.

What am I doing wrong?

You must have "Keep track of formatting" checked on the Edit tab of Tools |
Options for this to be available.
