Trying to install Windows XP Fax

Sherry

When I try to install Windows XP fax Services, I get the
following message, Cannot Copy file fxscfgwz.dll. I
tried the resoultion from Mircrosoft.
1. In the Copy Files Frombox, Type%path%\i386, where %
path% is the drive and folder path of the I386 folder.
2. Click Retry
Well I do this and i do not have a retry button but i do
have a OK button.
It just sits there and blinks. Never moves to a new
screen. Am I to type that exactly as above or is this a
code type. Please help!!!!!

When the installation routine is unable to find the necessary installation
files (even when directed to the appropriate i386 Folder) it usually means
that the installation files are compressed. This is often the case when the
files are pre-copied by a manufacturer on the hard drive. If you do a search
for the files that the installation routine claims are missing (fxsapi.dll
and fxcfgwz.dll) you won't find them, but you will find fxsapi.dl_ and
fxcfgwz.dl_. These are compressed DLL files and will need to be
decompressed. Double click on them and you will get a prompt for the file to
use to open them. Click on BROWSE. and select Win32 Cabinet Self-Extractor,
which is in the system folder. With any luck it will uncompress them all and
make them visible as DLL files. The install routine still may not find these
files. If so, then you must manually direct the installation routine to the
i386 folder that contains these extracted files.

Thanks Russ, Just one more question, How would I manually
direct the installation. And one other thing is that the
Windows card games on now gone from the start menu and I
have tried to reinstall them from the add/remove programs
and they do not come back. Thanks, Sherry

The installation routine should give you a Browse button for that purpose.

I would have no idea about Windows Games problems.

I got my fax to work on XP Home with the fxcfgwz.dll file
that I found at C:\WINDOWS\i386 which I entered as the
path for the fax wizard, and clicked on the file fxcfgwz,
and then clicked open. The wizard finished the job.
