trying again -- disk warning

Trying this again.
Bad disk warning.
Don’t have the XP install disk.
All I have are the restore disks that I made.

Do those copy the system files to a new drive? Or do they just reinstall
windows on the same drive.

When you clone a drive using cloning software does that make the new drive
bootable? With system files. Just throw the old drive away and use the new
one?

I have copied all files to a backup.
Thanks

Ask the company from which you purchased the system from. They created the
'restore process' that you utilized to create the 'restore disks'...
Usually it is a destructive restoration and everything is deleted, although
there are some non-destructives methods out there. Only those who made the
process you utilized will be able to tell you for sure what will happen when
you use those disks made from that process.

Unless you made up that method yourself - in which only by you telling us
how yhou made these restore disks can we tell you what *might* happen.

I replied some time ago to your other thread? Can you not find that?

If you can't find a previous thread one reason is you're using the Web
interface which is awful. With it one way to find previous posts is to
search for posts with your name as author using Google Groups Advanced
Search searching in microsoft.public.windowsxp.general.

Better yet use a newsreader to access what are actually Usenet newsgroups.
XP comes with Outlook Express which can be setup for newsgroup access. Here
is a link to an article on how to.

pardon our net nanny, guess he feels have a persons computer broken is ok over repeating assistance.

the RESTORE disk are meant to return the computer to the way it came from the manufacturer.

if the hard disk is going bad, then you can buy a new hard drive and use the program from the hard drive manufacturer to clone the going bad drive to it.
then replace the bad drive with the new one.
