True print speed for the Canon 950i

M

Mr 645

I know what the box says but those figuers rarely mean anything in the real
world. Can anyone tell me how long it really takes for these fast Canon photo
printers to kick out an 8x10 on premium paper at enough res to look like a real
photograph?

Thanks

I have printed several A4 pictures with a little white border around, so
they are close to the size you are asking about. They were scans of
35mm slides at 2820 dpi, each TIFF file around 25 MB. I set the printer
driver to use the highest resolution available and color management.

With a PIII 900 Mhz, 380 MB RAM and USB 2, it took approx. 3 min each
with Photoshop Elements 1. Actually it seemed to me that sometimes the
PC was lagging behind in sending the data, and the printer was pausing
waiting for them; so, shooting from the hips, I would expect between 2
and 2.5 minutes with a PC able to spool the print at full speed.

It really depends on several things. The actual picture itself and when you
start timing. Do you start timing as soon as you hit print, wait until the
printer starts to take the paper, or when the print head actually starts
printing. I did an 8x10 in about two minutes starting to time it as the
printer was taking the paper. If you figure about two minutes you will be
close.
