Troubleshooting Loss of Sound File Playback in Slideshows (PPT 200

G

Guest

- I am currently using PowerPoint 2003 on a Dell D-820 laptop with Windows XP
Professional.

- I cannot automatically or on "click" playback MP3 or wave files linked to
any of my slide show presentations, nor can I automatically or on "click"
start a CD track selection to play back link to a slide show as well.

- Facts:

- This situation applies to all presentations that have wav and MP3 linked
to them.

- The situation happened all of a sudden, with no warning boxes or
information boxes ever being displayed.

- The situation also applies to any new slide show I construct from scratch.

- All the wav and MP3 files linked to all the existing slideshows I've
created in the past can be played on the most recent installed versions of
RealPlayer and Windows Media Player that I currently have on my system.

- None of the presentation slide shows lock-up or otherwise manifest in
any play back problems; that is, the slide timing advance and other
animations are working properly.

- Package for CD versions created prior to this situation occuring exhibit
the same problem.

- I uninstalled PowerPoint and re-installed it and the problem still
remains.

I would appreciate whatever assistance anyone could provide.

Let's try the easy fix first. <g> Try downloading and reinstalling Windows
Media Player. I suspect that something (RealMedia?) has hijacked your file
associations and altered the machines codecs.
