Trouble with upgrade to XP Home from Windows 98se

I have tried to upgrade to Windows XP Home Edition from
Windows 98se and at the installing windows stage and
halfway into the installing devices sections the screen
turns black and 15-30 seconds later the computer turns
off. Anyone one have any ideas how to get a sucessful
install? Thanks
