Trouble with the power supply, or the motherboard?

Yesterday my PC kinda 'burned'. I opened it, and found that the power
supply (300W) stinked like hell (burned). So i bought a 450W power
supply today and mount it. The PC didn't started at all. SO IS THERE
A PROBLEM IN CHANGING A 300W FOR A 450W, OR MY COMPUTER JUST PASSED
OUT??? If its dead, how can I know what part of it is dead?

Can someone please help me!

Most likely, dead motherboard. Chances are good that the rest of the
computer is OK.

One thing that may prevent starting up is the floppy drive power plug,
it's real easy to get it one wire off, which is a dead short.

Consider economics before deciding to replace the motherboard.

Did that happen by itself, or were you doing something to it at the time ?

Nope.

Yes, a dying power supply can kill stuff plugged into it.

Try unplugging all the power connectors to the drives
to check whether its a drive that has been killed or
you have managed to stuff up the plugging in of those.

If it still doesnt start with no drives plugged into the power supply,
likely the motherboard has been fried as the power supply died,
or you didnt do something basic like plug in the 2x2 12V square
connector to the motherboard if the motherboard has one of those.

Two steps: First, disconnect everything except your MB. See if the PSU
starts. If it does, one of the disconnected devices is toast. Reconnect
them one at a time, trying to start your PSU after each reconnect.

If the PSU doesn't start with just the MB connected, disconnect it and
plug in a few drive devices. Short PS_ON pin 14 (green wire) to any
black wire on 20 pin PSU connector. If PSU starts, something on MB is
likely fried.

Good luck.
