I have a small W2K server mixed mode environment with one DC, one NT4 bdc, &
one W2K member server. DC is running DNS (AD integrated), WINS, DHCP
Just two things:
#1 - The member server will not register in DNS using ipconfig /registerdns
& nslookup will not resolve comp names on the network unless the full FQDN
is typed in. No other comps in the network are having this problem. The
member server is pointing at the DC for DNS. This server is also having
trouble with contacting the LLS on the DC, I'm assuming it's related to this
problem.
#2 - When I try & do ipconfig /registerdns on the DC, I get:
Error: The system cannot find the file specified.
: Refreshing DNS names
I'm not sure why this happens, I've done this before on DC's and the
register always worked. I've run simple & recursive queries to make sure
everything is working on the DNS & they both pass.
And one semi-unrelated question: Would deleting the existing forward &
reverse lookup zones & replacing them with new ones (using the excat same
name) affect anything other than the new zones being empty & having to be
repopulated? I'm pretty sure it wouldn't but just wanted to make sure.
Thanks
