I have been saving copies of emails received at my Hotmail address by first
clicking on <Print View>, and within the <Print View> screen, I click on the
<File> option in the menu bar, then select the <Save As> option, then I
select either the <Web Page, HTM only (*.htm)> option or the <Web Archive,
single file (*.mht)> option. Then I type in a file name and save the file to
a designated email folder on my hard drive. I use the HTM file format for
text only emails and the MHT file format for emails with graphics or images.
I save any email attachments in their native file formats.
The problem I'm having is viewing the saved HTM and MHT files using Windows
Explorer when I'm not online. Explorer responds to my attempt to open one of
these documents by telling me the web page is not available. If I happen to
be online when trying to view a file, Explorer brings me to a .NET Passport
sign-in dialog box.
I did not use to have this problem. Something in my operating system has
changed to prevent me from viewing these files just in the last 30 days.
Strange?
Please help if you know how I can fix the problem.
By the way, my temporary workaround is to <Print> the file to disk (not open
it) using the Acrobat or Windows Imaging print driver. Then I view the file
in the PDF or TIF file format.
