trouble shooting

When I boot up to Windows XP, a certain folder would appear;
c:/program files/microsoft

this happened after I installed MS Security Essentials

not sure whether this is related though

tried looking at msconfig and couldn't detect any new changes

what else can I try?

Use Autoruns to remove the unwanted start-up entries

To identify what loads when you boot use Autoruns (freeware from
Microsoft).
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/ProcessesAndThreads/Autoruns.mspx

With Autoruns you can uncheck an item, which disables it from
starting,or you can right click an item and then delete it. If you
uncheck you can recheck to re-enable the item. It is a much safer
approach than editing the Registry and better than using msconfig..
Another useful feature of the programme is that you can right click an
item and select Search Online to get information about the item
selected.

Please let me me know how you get on,

Hope this helps.

You have installed beta software.

Ask your question here:

You can use Autoruns to remove the "File not found" items.

That should read:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Security Essentials\msseces.exe -hide

... but the space after the word Microsoft confuses the path to the command.

Run regedit, press F3 to search for the value "msseces.exe -hide" and
modify the line to read:

"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Security Essentials\msseces.exe" -hide

You can copy/paste the above line so you won't mis-type.

C:\Program Files\Microsoft
is the actual folder that is displayed after booting
