trouble settng up e-mail and html result form

Background:

I'm using frontpage 2002 on a windows 2000 server; I have installed
frontpage 2002 server extensions.

1) I'm trying to set up form that e-mails results. Using MS's instructions
I setup the frontpage 2002 server extension for mail (smtp server, and
e-mail addresses). I then used form properties to set the e-mail address
for the form. When I click okay on the form properties, a dialogue box pops
up with the following message: "This form is being created on a disk-based
web or the frontpage server extensions have not been configured to send
e-mail. please direct your system administrator ..'setting up e-mail
options for windows'..." As i stated I have already done this.

I know that the server info is correct because I used the same info in
another program that sends e-mail and it works fine.

2) I have tried having the form save the results to an html file. this
doesn't work either.

I have tried both of these independently and neither works. Note: I have
successfully set up forms to write to an access DB.

any ideas?

Do you have the SMTP server installed and running?
Have you actually configured the extensions via the IIS MMC for each web site?

I don't have the smtp server installed.

I'm sending the e-mail it to a smtp server in our intranet.

I have one web site (the default) I have configured it using the IIS MMC.

Ok, is your web site authentication against the SMTP server? For the best help at this point,
suggest you post to the appropriate Windows Server newsgroup.

"...is your web site authentication against the SMTP server?" what does
that mean? I did notice that in the other program that sends off e-mail
successfully, there was a place for me to put in an account name.

Which newsgroup do you suggest?

#1 Your website must have a account on the SMTP server to send email.

#2 Try the Windows 2000 or 2003 Server - General newsgroup.

Thomas,

After a week of pulling out my hair I found the problem: I had been naming
the form files with the "asp" extension. To make e-mail and/or saving to
the html file work the form file has to have a "htm" or "html" extension.

Sigh....go and know
