Trouble Joining Domain

Windows 2000 Pro. I am trying to join a domain (Windows 2000 Server) with my
work station. I have a problem whether I use the wizard under Control
Panel-System-Network Identification-Network ID or whether I try to "rename"
the computer under properties. My domain name is valid (GNMSC), and there is
no other system in the domain with the same name (CHERYL). However, I get
this error message:

The following error occurred attempting to join the domain "gnmsc":
The credential supplied conflict with an existing set of credentials.

What does this mean and how can I fix it? Thanks.

I believe this error is in reference to your user credentials.
Do you have any persistant drive mappings on this workstation?
Disconnect all network drive mappings, reboot, then try to join the domain.
