I AM USING 2 WIN XP MACHINES, 1 DESKTOP & 1 LAPTOP BOTH HAS SP2

FROM THE DESKTOP MACHINE, THE LAPTOP IS ACCESSABLE, BUT THE REVERSE IS
NOT HAPPENING, IT SAYS "YOU MIGHT NOT HAVE PERMISSION TO USE THIS
NETWORK RESOURCE..... ACCESS IS DENIED"

PLEASE HELP ME TO SOLVE THIS.

Nanda,

First, please use mixed case - don't shout.

Now, please examine the complete text of the error message. What's in the
"..."?

Next, one of the most common causes of this problem would be a misconfigured or
overlooked personal firewall, but there are other possibilities too.

If no help yet, provide "browstat status" and "ipconfig /all" from each
computer, so we can diagnose the problem. Read this article, and linked
articles, and follow instructions precisely:

Chuck,
I have the same problem as Nanda. I went into some of your recommended
reading. I am impressed by the knowledge documented there, and I deeply
respect your professional authority. But all I want to do is to connect two
measly PCs via a piece of crosslinked wire. If it really takes the effort
described to solve the problem, I rather leave it unsolved and wait for
Windows Vista, hoping for more user-friendly network handling. Thank you
anyway - failure is sweeter when you know that only the best succeed. Kind
regards
Wolfgang

Wolfgang,

Thanks for your feedback. You don't know - your problem may be simpler than
Nanda's. And I seriously doubt that Vista will make it substantially simpler,
in all cases. But, if you want to wait, we'll see.

By crosslinked wire you do mean crossover? Terminology is key in solving
problems here, and crossover cables are essential where needed.
