After installing a very large service pack windows update
the computer keeps rebooting. I've tried safe mode, last
good configuration and safe mode w/ dos prompt and all do
the same. There is a quick blue screen after the windows
banner and it restarts.

Assuming you can get to a desktop:

Rt-click My Computer, select Properties > Advanced > Startup and Recovery >
Settings and uncheck the Automatic Restart box so you can see the blue
screen.

I take it you can't see the error message as it is so
quick. Firstly it may be wise to run chkdsk from the
command prompt using the XP CD. Choose 'R' at the 1st
prompt when booting from the CD. If this doesn't work I
would choose the repair option on the disk. Press 'enter'
at the 1st prompt then 'r' for repair. this will
reinstall XP without losing your data (Remove you hard
drive & backup any personal data if required).

Cheers Darchy
