Trojans/Dialers!!

Arpan

I have Windows XP Professional as well as Windows 2000 Professional installed in my machine (in D:\ & C:\ respectively). I very rarely use WinXP but my anti-virus AVG7 often detects dialers, Trojans, worms or visuses in D:\. For e.g. today it detected the following 3 Trojans in D:\:

1. Trojan horse Dialer.17.E (file name: A0044173.dll) in D:\System Volume Information\_restore{FFEA64AA-69ED-487E-8B7D-012E018CFD3C}\RP83

2. Trojan horse Dialer.17.M (file name: A0044175.dll) in D:\System Volume Information\_restore{FFEA64AA-69ED-487E-8B7D-012E018CFD3C}\RP83

3. Trojan horse Dialer.17.H (file name: sporder.dll) in D:\WINDOWS\system32

How are these Trojans finding their way into D:\ as I always work on Win2K & hardly use WinXP? Also what are these dialers? Are they some type of Trojans?

Thanks,

Arpan

In cases #1 & 2 the virus is being found in a Restore point. Boot into XP
and then purge all your System Restore points by going to Control
Panel->System->Restore Tab and check the box to disable System Restore.
Click Apply. Then recheck the box to enable System Restore again and OK out.

In case #3 just delete the offending file or run a spyware cleaner from XP's
Safe Mode. You can find cleaners linked from here

1) i am trying to use dialer to dial with a calling card etc. when i try to
dial the number it does not recoganize the number is long distance. is there
a special way to indicate the number is long distance so it dials the At&t
access number and calling card pin?
2) i am able to get the dialer to dial the accesss number, pin and number to
be dialed by using commas to pause between numbers. i can her the distend
end pickup, but they do not hear me when i am using the microphone. i know
my microphone works. is there something else need to be set to use the
microphone with dialer?
