Trojan Horse Downloader.Generic2.CCY Help Please!

Tommy Haigh

Hi,

I'm running WIN XP PRO and my AVG PRO virus checker displays that I
have a virus as follows:

'Trojan Horse Downloader.Generic2.CCY'

AVG deletes it but on subsequent virus checks it does reappear. I
have turned System restore off, rebooted, AVG checked it again and it
still remains there.

The 'virus' or Trojan resides in the following folder,
C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\??sks\attrib.exe

I've done a search and can only find a file named attrib.exe which
resides in C:\windows\system32 directory

Any help would be appreciated

Cheers

Hi,

That one is a normal system file if it hasn't been altered or replaced
by malware. Do you have Windows set to show all hidden files and
folders? I use a freeware utility named LOCATE.COM by Charles Dye
to display all files and folders. If you use it to find all instances
of attrib.exe it will also show the file attributes. If the normal
attrib.exe is working ok you can use it to remove the file attributes
from the suspect file. You might have to do that in Safe mode.
Copy the suspect attrib.exe file from \??sks\ folder to some test
folder. Then upload it to Virus Total for scanning to see what other
av products find and to get alias malware names which can be used
to find malware technical descriptions.

If all that is too much for you, then download my KAVDOSNT utility
and after updating, run it in Safe mode. Let us know what it
finds.

The file could very well have the Hidden and System file attributes and thus not visible
without changing those file attributes or having the search function search for files with
those attributes.

You can use the following to remove this trojan (and possibley others).

Download MULTI_AV.EXE from the URL --
http://www.ik-cs.com/programs/virtools/Multi_AV.exe

To use this utility, perform the following...
Execute; Multi_AV.exe { Note: You must use the default folder C:\AV-CLS }
Choose; Unzip
Choose; Close

Execute; C:\AV-CLS\StartMenu.BAT
{ or Double-click on 'Start Menu' in C:\AV-CLS }

NOTE: You may have to disable your software FireWall or allow WGET.EXE to go through your
FireWall to allow it to download the needed AV vendor related files.

C:\AV-CLS\StartMenu.BAT -- { or Double-click on 'Start Menu' in C:\AV-CLS}
This will bring up the initial menu of choices and should be executed in Normal Mode.
This way all the components can be downloaded from each AV vendor's web site.
The choices are; Sophos, Trend, McAfee, Kaspersky, Exit this menu and Reboot the PC.

You can choose to go to each menu item and just download the needed files or you can
download the files and perform a scan in Normal Mode. Once you have downloaded the files
needed for each scanner you want to use, you should reboot the PC into Safe Mode [F8 key
during boot] and re-run the menu again and choose which scanner you want to run in Safe
Mode. It is suggested to run the scanners in both Safe Mode and Normal Mode.

When the menu is displayed hitting 'H' or 'h' will bring up a more comprehensive PDF help
file. http://www.ik-cs.com/multi-av.htm

Thanks for your help guys.

I've just done a couple of reboots with System Restore disabled and
run AVG PRO and it came up with Trojan Horse Downloader.Generic22.CCY
together with another Trojan Horse Downloader.ZZLOB.BBK

AVG has now deleted these files and after rebooting again, it seems to
have done the trick, (fingers crossed!)

Switched on System restore and next scan by AVG, Adaware SE Pro and
Zonelabs don't show any Trojans.

Thanks again, guys for your interest and advice, I appreciate it.

Is this a typo - Downloader.ZZLOB.BBK ?

Should this have been - Downloader.ZLOB.BBK ?

Sorry Guys, my apologies. It is a TYPO error and am sorry for any
confusion caused. It should have read Downloader.ZLOB.BBK

Tommy
