Transition time bug in PowerPoint 2002

My PowerPoint slide show created in Office 2000 doesn't
behave the same under Office 2002. I have lengthy audio
segments built under the Custom Animation Sound option.
Once the audio starts I may have 5 to 15 slides that
display with the audit based on scripted transition
times. In Office 2000 this works as desired however in
Office 2002 no slide transitions occur until the whole
audio file plays through to the end. This defeats the my
design for synchronizing slide transition with the
dialog. I found a bug description on Microsoft's web
page that describes this know fault and offers a work
around. My presentations are huge and the work around is
manually intensive. Is there by chance a published patch
I might download to address this issue in Office 2002?

In PowerPoint 2002 do the following:

1. Go to Tools > Options > Edit and check the box next to "New animation
effects" at the bottom. Click OK.
2. Right click the sound icon and click on Custom Animation.
3. Click on the Multimedia Settings tab.
4. Check "Continue slide show" under "Play using animation order". Click OK.
5. When you have done this for all sound files, go to Tools > Options > Edit
and *uncheck* the box next to "New animation effects" at the bottom. Click OK.
6. Test the presentation to see if that corrects the problem.
