Transferring files

I have just installed a new 250gb hard drive to use as main program disk. I
intend to keep original 80gb disk for data, photos etc. How can I transfer
all program files to new disk including o/s. The original disk is IDE and the
new SATA.

The new HD manufacturers site will have a free utility for transfering.
If you use this ensure you read the instructions, after copying all to your
new drive, you would have to shutdown, disconnect the old drive before
rebooting.

You would also need to check your motherboard manual as to specific
instructions in useing the sata as boot drive, this may involve both
ammending Bios and installing sata/raid drivers, and connecting the sata to
a specific port

Acronis TrueImage Workstation with Universal Restore should work perfectly
for this (as well as giving you something to do backups with). You'll need
the SATA controller driver handy so you can provide it during your restore.

I don't believe Acronis' home version has a Universal Restore
option....that's critical. But even Workstation doesn't cost that much, and
it's an awesome product.

I'm not a paid (or unpaid) shill - I just like their stuff.
