Transferring files and settings

Did anybody experienced transferring files & settings from: "System
Tools/Files and Settings Transfer Wizard" from an old PC to a new PC using:
null modem serial cable, also known as: laplink serial cable or serial file
transfer cable? If so, can it be done with only minimal knowledge of
computers? Does the old PC loses it's content after transferring it to the
new PC? Would really appreciate an answer.

Using a Serial cable would be slow. Plus many new PCs do not
ship with a COM or Serial port, as USB has generally replaced
them. You can get a Belkin Easy Transfer cable kit, but I'd just
buy a small USB Flash drive and use it for the transfer. However
that suggestion implies that you don't have high amounts of data
(4.0 Gigabytes+) to move to the new PC.

Warehouse clubs are a good place to purchase. Sam's Club has
a 2.0 Gigabyte Flash drive for under ~$20.
