Transferring data

I just purchased a new laptop and am trying to tranfer
data from my old laptop to my new one. My old laptop is
a six year old Dell Latitude LM and does not have a USB
port. We tried hooking up cables, but Windows XP would
not let us transfer any data because it's so secure (i.e.
it wouldn't allow us to import anything).

Does anyone have a suggestion for the best way to get
stuff off of my old computer and on to my new one?

Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

I just had to do this for a client. In his case, it was easiest to just
take an hour and transfer his data with a floppy. It was tedious, but
effective. However, his data was mostly Word documents and a few
Powerpoint presentations that fit on a floppy. If you can't do that,
then it might be easiest to just borrow a laptop hard drive adapter,
slave the laptop hard drive into a desktop machine that has a cd-rw
drive and transfer the data that way. Burn it all onto cd-r disks and
then you can easily put the data on the new laptop. If this sounds
daunting to you, it might be a good idea to have a local computer shop
do it for you (not a BestBuy or CompUSA type of store). This is really
a very easy procedure.

Cheers,

Malke
