Transfering saved email from old computer to a new one

My computer recently crashed. I installed a new hard drive and was able to
recoup all my essentials files. The only thing left to save is my saved
folders with important email and the address book. I can re-install the old
hard disk and still boot it up in safe mode only; however, I have been unable
to run Outlook Express. My questions are: 1). How can I get into Outlook
Express in Safe Mode?; 2). How to transfer my saved email folders to the new
hard drive?
Thank you,

A1. You should be able to load OE in Safe Mode.

A2. Ideally, you'd import the data into your new OE identity on the new HDD.

Thank you,

Start here for info on OE, if no joy check out other pages of the site.

It will most likely be easier to transfer/copy the needed
directory/folder/files over if you set the old hard drive as the slave drive
instead of booting to it in Safe Mode. By setting it as the Slave, you should
be able to access all folders/files that are on the drive when booted to the OS
on the new drive. Keep in mind, if any data was lost/corrupted on the old drive
due to the recent crash, it may be un-recoverable.

Brian, you seem to be close to help. Despite the crash, I have recovered all
the essential files I needed, with the exception of the saved email folders
(important email I wanted to keep for future reference). Please give details

Enable Show Hidden Files and folders
Open My Computer,
Tools > Folder Options > View tab,
under Hidden Files and Folders, verify Show Hidden Files and Folders is
selected.

Then follow the directions given by either PA Bear or Brian A

On the old hard drive you can find the OE folders (.dbx) which contain your
messages at C:\Documents and Settings\Your Username folder\Local
Settings\Application Data\Identities\Ident Number\Microsoft\Outlook Express.
**Note: Ident Number is a folder with numbers/letters inside { }, such as
{72AD54CB-more num/lets-morenum/lets- etc.}, it is not named Ident Number.

One way that might make your task easier once you know where your OE store is
located would be to use OE Viewer (Free). With it you can view the messages in
the store, save them to .eml or copy any of the context and save it to a text
editor application such as Word/Notepad if you wish.

The above Microsoft help and support would be your best
option.
