transfering mail from computer to flash drive

Michael Brown

im borrowing a computer that windows mail downloaded all my earthlink
web-based mail to in the background without my knowing it, about 5000
messages. it was first time i used it and i didnt know at the time how to
prevent it from downloading and deleting all my mail from the earthlink
server after i read one message.

now i have to give computer back and am simply copying the "Local Folders"
file in the "windows mail" file to a flash drive. after about 5 minutes of
not doing anything, it gave me a "could not find resourses" warning message
but i told it to copy the files anyway. at that point it started copying all
the files. it tells me it will be over an hour to do it (while im writing
this it is still copying). i hope just copying the "local folders" file from
the flash drive over the "local folders" file in the new computer will work,
but was concerned about the "could not find resourses" warning.

thank you.

I'm not saying that what you did won't work, but the preferred way
would have been to use the Export tool (File, Export, Messages).
