Transfer Text error 31519

Hi
I have aa Access 97 db with import specifications for reading text files with .dat extension. Afetr converting the db to 2002, the transfertext command fails with a "31519 Cannot import this file". If i convert the text files to .txt, it works fine. Unfortunately, the input files are third-party and they won't change the extensions. So, any way of making the transfertext command accept a non-.txt file?

Here are two different approaches.

shows how to change the extensions that Access will accept. The neatest
method is the last, editing the registry (provided you're careful<g>).

includes code that automatically makes a copy of the textfile with a
..txt extension and imports that.

Thanks very much. I'll be using the second method as I'm distributing the db to several clients and don't want to mess with their registries. Thanks for the quick reply- Ron
