Transfer ownership of XP Pro?

B

Bruin

I recently purchased a friend's old computer. The only reason I bought it
was because it came with a copy of WinXP Pro, retail version he bought a
couple years ago. I put a totally new build on it & to my never-ending
amazement, it activated. I needed to activate it to get the 300+ meg of
patches.

Now I regret activating it because this computer has not met expectations.
I will be building a new one & tossing the old one (after cannibalizing some
of the parts).

How do I transfer ownership? I highly doubt that it will activate a third
time.

TIA!

As it is a retail version, you can move it to another computer with no
problem. You may have to do phone activation but just tell the operator
what you did and they will activate it for you.

Sure it can activate\. Retail versions can be moved to a different
computer as many times as you want as long as it's removed from the
previous one. If more that 120 days since the last time, it should
activate fine online. If less you'll need to make a phone call.
