Dear Sir/Madam:

I am purchasing a new computer with VISTA operating systems. What do I
need to do to transfer data from my X-P operating systems? Also can I
transfer my applications such as Quicken Deluxe 2007; Family Tree Maker 2005;
Mastercook; Nero; Adobe Reader 8; The Print Shop 6.0 and Window Media
Player.

Do I need a special cable to transfer the data?

Thank you,

You can transfer files with a cable link or a network or by just using a
memory pen but not whole applications. These you will have to reload from
Program CD's

There are all kinds of ways to deal with your data depending upon how much
data you have and what hardware and software you already have. If you have
a CD or DVD burner, you can simply copy your data files to disk and copy
them back in Vista. If you have a Vista compatible backup application, you
can use that to backup your current setup and restore in Vista but be aware,
because data is stored in different places than on XP and previous 9x
systems, you will need to use the restore to different location option.

As to your applications, assuming they are applications you purchased at
retail and are not OEM versions that came with your computer, you would need
to install them on the new setup.

If you have problems with MasterCook here is a great help site:
http://mc6help.tripod.com/mastercook_and_vista.htm.

I didn't have problems with MasterCook but the MC Web/toolbar did not
function correctly. EACH time you start IE right click and click RUN AS
ADMINISTRATOR. You can then add your recipes to the list and import them into
MC. I have MC 8 and it seems stable and imported recipes from the toolbar
just fine. Otherwise you might get an error on page message at the bottom and
recipes cannot be added into the list. Just remember to import them into MC
before shutting down IE since the toolbar/webbar thingy does NOT save them.
