Transfer of avi files to DVD

Bob Leon

Hi,

I have recently purchased a DVD Writer and have a collection of avi
files that I had written to CD. I would now like to transfer these to DVD
for viewing on my Home DVD player. Can anyone recommend free software that
will allow me to do this. As this is a one-off job I didn't really wish to
purchase a commercial product.

In order to create the avi files, I used video tape and a video camera
linked to a computer and the 'Dazzle' (Moviestar 5) software. There is
probably a way that I can use this software again to create the DVD but I no
longer have access to the camera and therefore cannot use the original video
tape.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

You're gonna have to re-render the AVI files to watch them on a stand
alone DVD player...unless someone has started making a player that
will play them< Haven't heard of one >
TMPGEnc < free version > will convert to VCD and will play on my stand
alone. I use TMPGEnc Plus < not free > and convert to VCD and SVCD.
TMPGEnc Plus will also render an AVI to DVD format but I have not used
that feature...the bitrate would prob be over 4,000, whereas, I'm
guessing your AVI files are probably under 2500 bitrate.
I feel sure your new burner came w/ burning ware ? Hopefully Nero.

Thanks very much for the advice and links. The version of TMPGEnc that I
have was trialware and has expired. I don't know whether re-installing it
will re-enable the features. The DVD writer was just purchased as the bare
drive but I already have a copy of Nero 5. I obtained other DVD related
software from the Internet and have used these successfully. I picked up a
demo version of an avi to DVD converter but this is crippleware, allowing
only about two minutes of useable output. I haven't completed the full
process yet and so don't know what the file structure/ file names on a
working DVD should be. Once I find out, I'll have some idea as to whether
the disk is likely to work. Clearly, I need to do some research on the
subject. I appreciate the help and advice that you have given but to be
fair, I shouldn't depend on others to 'spoon feed' me the information I
need. If I have further problems, I'll relate them to this newsgroup.
