Transfer folders from mail to another PC

Doug

I built a new PC.Running Vista Premium Home Version(64).I have a lot of
sub folders on my old Laptop, running XP pro.How can I get the files or
the whole folder onto the new PC??

I do not have the software for transfer utility in Vista.

I do not know where the file is for my mail folders.I thought I could
copy them to CD or thumb drive and then transfer to new PC??

I am running Thunderbird right now.I tried to set up multiple user
accounts in windows mail but see it can not be done.

Thank You
Doug

Your question how to "How can I get the files or the whole folder onto the
new PC??" is not a Windows Mail problem. There are many ways you can do it.
If the laptop still works, then just connect the old and new systems to the
same network. Or you can use the old laptop to copy to a flash drive. Or you
can remove the hard drive from the old system and connect it to the new
system. I think you already know all that and don't need to ask how to do it
and I am probably wasting my time telling you things you already know.

The question of how to transfer messages are asked many times, at least once
a week. You can get answers by looking at previous answers. You can impress
the experts by showing you have already tried to find previous answers. Note
that you did not specify what email program was used in the XP system. The
answer depends on the software used.

The etc. system I am using Outlook Express 7. I understand I should and
did look threw previous posts concerning this topic.
I would like to find where in windows XP does it store the Mail Folders
for each account and sub folders.
I want to copy to a cd just the folders,as I said I have 100's of sub
folders containing receipts,banking,etc.

Thank You Again

P.S. Sorry about not stating OS on Laptop!!!

Hi, Doug.
The etc. system I am using Outlook Express 7.

Then you are the only person in the world doing that! OE6 was the last
version of OE and Microsoft announced a couple of years ago that there would
be no further development of that product.
I would like to find where in windows XP does it store the Mail Folders
for each account and sub folders.

That's easy; just look in: Tools | Options | Advanced | Maintenance | Store
Folder

Now I'll butt out of this thread, since I haven't used OE or WinXP in about
3 years.

There is no such animal as "Outlook Express 7".
It still is not clear which mail program you used on XP.
Assuming it was Outlook Express, see
http://www.vista4beginners.com/Migrate-from-Outlook-Express-to-Windows-Mail

As to your earlier remark about lack of Identities in Windows Mail,
there are several workarounds besides switching to Thunderbird:

Windows Mail does not have the feature of separate Identities.
By default, all email from all accounts goes into the same Inbox.
There are four different ways of changing that:

1. Use separate Windows user logins. That gives total privacy, and is
ideal when two different people use the same computer.

2. Use message rules to filter incoming messages into
separate mail folders.

3. Upgrade to Windows Live Mail which has separate folders for each
account, no rules needed: http://download.live.com/wlmail

4. Purchase an add-on called WMIDs:

I do apologize it is Outlook Express 76,that I am using on the Lap Top.

Thank You both for your time and replies.
