How do I transfer files between two computers over the internet? I'm
running Win'XP on both computers.

Not enough information.

- Windows XP what? Professional? Home? Media Center? x64? Tablet PC?
- What type of files?
- For what purpose?
- What do *you* mean by 'over the Internet'?

Explain what it is you are trying to do - because your problem is too broad
to give a good/correct answer.

You could FTP them someplace and download them from another place.
You could email them to yourself and download them on another machine.
You could use Remote Desktop (or similar program) to copy the files using
the 'Local Resources' option.
You could share (not recommended) the files/folders out to everyone on the
Internet.
You could setup a web server on one machine and give that site access to the
files in question so you could get to them via the web page address. (Not
recommended.)
You could setup a VPN on one machine - connect to it with the other and map
the shared directories and copy them...

And the list goes on...

E-mail them from one to the other, or upload them to a web site on one
computer and download them on the other.

That doesn't matter.

Thank you Shenan Stanley and Ken Blake. I've got the two machines in the
same room now. They are connected to the internet via a router. They are
able talk to each other via the router. I've been moving files between the
two machines by marking a folder as shared on one machine and then running
"RUN \\192.168.1.102" from the other machine. I note that when marking the
folder as shared on the 1st machine the process that the machine then goes
through takes a very long time (about 5 minutes). The thought has occured
to me that the system might be broadcasting the information to the entire
internet? If so, I'm concerned with what does someone on the internet has
to do to use it?
