tranfering files in same hard drive but does not support long file name

I'm trying to transfer some documents from one folder to
another in the same physical drive. The drive I am working
with is a mapped drive and I am trying to move files with
long names from one folder to the next. Error I get is:
The destination does not support long file names. Please
enter a name for this file.

The destinatin and the source are only two folders apart
on the same physical drive!

I'm a little confused - why would you have a mapped drive for folders on
the same physical drive? You don't want to do this. Maybe you want a
shortcut to the folder (even if it's on another partition this will
work), but afaik, you really only map drives over the network so the
local machine will think the network resource is local. Try removing
the mapping and see if that fixes things. Then, if you still need help,
repost and describe what you are trying to do (end objective) more
fully.
