Tracking workbook usage

I would like to track who opens a certain excel workbook. The macro below works great but only for those who have read/write permissions. It doesn't track users that have read-only permissions. Any ideas on what I need to do? Thank you

Private Sub Workbook_Open(

Open ThisWorkbook.Path & "\TrackUsage.log" For Append As #
Print #1, Application.UserName, Now, "Opened

They don't have write permissions to the common share, so they can't update the
..log file???

Can you find a common share that's open somewhere?

Maybe you could use that instead.

No I can't find another share. Those folks have a read-only permission for a reason.

If they can send emails, maybe you could do something that way.

(But I don't know if this would be transparent all the time.)
