Hi. I keep getting the following popup ad. I have noticed that I get small popups that disappear before I can see what they are...and also tons of popups. Is this legitimate? It takes me to a site from Enigma Software that has a free download that is supposed to get rid of this parasite. I am leary of anything FREE. Also leary of downloads of any kind. Any help here? Thanks.

Hi Origamimommi,

You're completely right, it is a scam.

To prevent occurrences of this type, you have to have a firewall,
there's one for free at http://www.zonealarm.com

Conversely, you can activate the firewall that comes with Windows XP

To enable your firewall :
- Click Start
- Click Control Panel
- Double Click "Network Connections"
- Right-click on your Dial up Connection, then left click 'Properties'
- Left Click 'Advanced' Under "Internet Connection Firewall" tick the
box
'Protect my computer and networking by limiting or preventing access
to this
computer from the internet'
- Click Ok and Close the "network connections" box.

Once you're duly protected by a firewall, you can disable the
messenger service (which has nothing to do with MSN), by going to
Start > Run > typing services.msc

Then scrolling until you find the messenger service, right click on
it, choose properties and choose disable.

If you want to get rid of the pop-ups that appear on the websites you
have to have a pop-up blocker:

- You can use the google toolbar and it'll prevent pop ups.
- You can go to www.panicware.com and get their pop-up stopper for
free.

With this you should be free of those awful pop-ups, and secure behind
your firewall.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, guys. I know I can get a pop up blocker, but those little ones that come and go so quickly worry me.
