totally crashed western digital 80 gb

ok so I have a western digital 80 gb (WDC WD800BB-00CAA1) and it
worked very well before, without any errors. but the system was
fat32, so I wanted to convert it to ntfs. so I followed the
instructions on the official windows site, but after rebooting 2
times (for converting to ntfs) I got a bsod (blue screen of death).
so I decided to install win xp pro on my 4 gb seagate harddisk for
the time being. but now my western digital 80 gb is recognised as
31,5 gb in windows.
so I thought maybe partition magic can help me, turns out that it
couldn't, which made me decide to format the whole drive, and start
fresh again. so I used the newest lifeguard tools provided from the
original western digital website and wrote 0 (zero) sectors to my
harddisk. after that, my harddisk was recognised as 80 gb by the
lifeguard tools. so I said format the drive, but it just stood still
on initializing and did absolutely nothing.
now in partition magic, my drive is being recognized as 80 gb, but in
windows it's still 31,5 gb! so I thought maybe partitioninfo can tell
me more
and then this error occured :
Info: End C,H,S values were large drive placeholders.
Actual values are:
0 0 80 0 1 1 07 9728 254 63 63
156296322
Error #109: Partition ends after end of disk.
ucEndCylinder (9728) must be less than 4111.

I don't know to much about harddrive sectors or anything, but is there
anybody out there that can please help me ? this harddrive has been
working fine for years and now suddenly I get this. I'm low at budget
to, so it will be a long time before I can buy a new one.

Thank you, Best regards, Tim

setup the 4gb as master and the 80gb as slave - use Western Digital software
to reinstall the 80gb HDD.
Repartition it into 2 40gb partitions and then format those partitions as
NTFS and completely copy the master drives contents over before swapping the
drives over.
thats how I installed my WD 120gb HDD.

Whenever you boot up from another win xp, go to:

start
settings
control panel
administrative tools
computer management
storage
disk management(local)

select your hdd, delete all partitions, create one big partition and format
to ntfs
and you are good to go - no restart needed.

What configuration are you running the drive. WDs are a little
different in how you set up the Master/slave jumper, unless you are
using Cable Select.
