To PA Bear, my reply, finally

Back when my IE 8 crashed so badly due to my own hands, I had asked how to
maintain my icon setup in the notification area through a reboot. I mentioned
I used a .bat file to run a script to clean it up first. You questioned the
..bat as I had not explained it well.

I played a lot with DOS, making little "helper" routines. I also played a
lot with Basic, BasicA, GWbasic and Quickbasic for the same reasons. I think
I started on DOS 2.2 or so. I was mostly into hardware, so simple SW things
were fun.

My script is indeed from Kelly's-Korner, with much thanks to Kelly and is
entered on a command line as "cscript C:\xp_pastitems.vbs". Being basically a
lazy person, I made a very simple .bat that inclluded that line and saved it
as c.bat in the proper directory. Now I simply open 'Run" type a "c" and hit
return and it does it's thing. And I haven't forgotten the file name "c" to
this very day. Sorry I could not get that message back to you before this but
you know the fires I had which look all gone now with much thanks to you. And
I promise I will not use a registry cleaner again.

Joe,

PA Bear has no programming experience & has only limited knowledge of
supporting XP only

You should never use a registry clean tool

YW & thanks for your feedback...but you should always reply to your original
thread whenever possible, Joe. It was pure luck that I happened to spot
this thread.

for the best experience,
always follow the manufacturers
recommendations:

in any case, if pab's
suggestion proved to
be a solution and the
customer is happy,

you should toss your
two cents into a pond
instead.

Message received. I am somewhat of a novice to this kind of communication and
these forums are far larger than I had imagined.

My two cents will stay where I put them with many thanks. after all, you
might rather be sitting on a beach somewhere with an adult beverage of your
choice, enjoying the day rather than listen to a nut case like me. You are
mostly all good folks. Glad I'm kind of a techie.

To Joe1 - although you are writing through discussions.ms.com , this "
forum " is actually on the web ; so anybody with a computer and
software can read what is "said" . ( Millions of people ) ;)

It's also in Usenet and millions of people all over the world can see,
read, respond, etc... in the same thread.

Joe, in case you're very new, Usenet and Web forums are not like email,
they are public and everyone can see them.
