to MSFT: Does Vista RTM Support ANY Printer Servers?

K

kevin forsythe

has anybody actually gotten a stand alone printer server (not a PC sharing a
printer on the network) to work under Vista?
is there any offically supported Printer server devices that have the Vista
certification from MSFT) I've not seen any drivers for linksys, netgear,
dlink etc.

all I want to do is share a printer on my network.. I've tried the Netgear
WGPS606 (wireless printer server with USB) but the XP drivers wont work
(even when the *.exe ) is set in compadibility mode XP SP2
I also have an Infrant NAS device (1TB Raid5 array box) but the built in
print server is flaky under Vista (print test page takes about 15mins to
print (on a 1000MBPS either on MTU 1500 or Jumbo packets 9000 MTU) and some
applications like Office 2007 RTM or IE7 the pages get stuck in the queue
for up to 24hrs and never print..

I've had to resort to hanging the end of the USB on a table and manully
plugging my Vista Laptop and printing as a local printer :-(

I'm successfully using a Netgear PS110 2-port print server with Vista RTM
x64. I did not have to install any driver (except for the printer). I defined
the printer as a network printer and selected the generic 2-port print server.

Hope this helps.

You can only make a connection to the print server device if it's running
Samba 3.

Create a local printer using a Local Port with the name
\\printservername\sharename.

I had tested Vista in a printshop environent and have had no problem with HP
JetDirect or Xerox print servers.
