To floppy or not to floppy?

All cases come with at least one drive bay specifically for floppy drives
so how is it wasting a drive bay?

All cases come with a 3.5" open front bay but that is not only for
floppy drives. I've been wanting to get a universal card reader and
saw an internal one at Frys the other day and it's 3.5".

I'd get much more use out of that than having a floppy drive in that
drive bay.

Some of us still have our own punch cards and don't need to ask grandfathers about them. They aren't that old.

True, and I have a friend who bought one and he got nothing but headaches
from it. Make sure you get one that is known not to cause issues.

I'm surprised those would be problematic since they are extremely
simple USB devices. But regardless, I would still get more benefit
from a half-working card reader than a floppy drive.

What I'd like is a USB port that DOS and the BIOS think is a floppy.

The worst ones are the ones that are 20 in 1 and it drops 20 drives/letters
in My Computer.

I just picked up a rather expensive Sandisk card reader. About $30,
but it's made real well and works real well. Newegg doesn't carry
it, but amazon does. I was thinking about the 3.5 versions, but
getting a little portable one allows you to use it with more than
one box. I've got three. It's also small enough to put in your
coat pocket and take to another machine off campus.

I passed on a lot of the cheap one's and the samsung 3.5 floppy
drive due to a lot of negative comments in user reviews. If you
read the reviews at amazon for the sandisk 12in1, you'll be
convinced.
