If you want to Win a trip to Mongolia... Try emptying your Temporary
Internet Files.

To delete *all* Temporary Internet Files...

1) Start | Run | Type: inetcpl.cpl | Click OK
Or right click the Internet Explorer icon on your Desktop
Or Start | Settings | Control Panel | Internet Options
Best to do this with all instances of Internet Explorer closed. Especially
if there are a large number of files.
2) On the General Tab, in the middle of the screen, click on Delete Files
3) Check the box Delete all offline content {This cleans >>
%userprofile%\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files
AND
%userprofile%\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5
and \Content.MSO (Created by an MS Office program)}
4) Click on OK and wait for the hourglass icon to stop after it deletes the
temporary internet files
5) You can now click on Delete Cookies and click OK to delete cookies that
websites have placed on your hard drive.

If you want, try this: Open IE | Tools | Internet Options | Advanced tab |
scroll down to the bottom | check: Empty Temporary Internet Files folder
when browser is closed | click Apply | OK. Entirely up to you, but if you
want to be rid of this, it is done automatically. Deletes the content of
%userprofile%\Local Settings\Temporary Internet
Files but not the Content.IE5 or Content.MSO folders.

Hi Wesley,
I've carried out all of the options you mentioned, but I
still can't get to that site. I have also deleted a lot of my holiday videos
which were clogging up my HD. I've now got 100Gb free. I've checked to see
if my HD needs de-fragging but it doesn't.
Can't understand it. I seem to be able to log on to any other site - it's
just The Times.
Thanks for offering a solution though.
Guess I'm not going to Mongolia!

Thanks again

Hi Wes,
No. After about 20-30 seconds, I still get the 'Done' sign bottom
right of screen but the screen is blank. Also, the Microsoft flag (top
right) is still active. It stays this way until I close the browser.
(I am on Blueyonder broadband).
Is there any possibility something like that Active X, or Java settings may
need changing? If so, I wouldn't know how to change them.
I also use Spyware Doctor and eTrust antivirus which run in the background.
(I've tried accessing the site with Spyware Doctore turned off but it makes
no difference).

I set my Security settings to High and was still able to access
http://travel.timesonline.co.uk/section/0,,15849,00.html

Do you have a custom HOSTS file? If you do see if travel.timesonline.co.uk
or any variation is listed, i.e. travel.timesonline.co or timesonline.co.uk

See if travel.timesonline.co.uk is listed in Restricted sites In Internet
Explorer.

IE | Tools | Internet Options | Security tab |
Click on Restricted sites | Sites button |
Under Web sites | If it is, remove it

Try adding travel.timesonline.co.uk to the Trusted sites zone.

IE | Tools | Internet Options | Security tab |
Click on Trusted sites zone | Sites button |
In the Add this Web site to the zone text box, type the Internet address for
the Web site that you want to add to this zone, and then click Add.

Hi Wes,

I have no custom hosts file to my knowledge. (I have had the computer from
new).

travel.timesonline.co.uk isn't listed in the Restricted sites in I.E. The
boxes are empty - no Restricted sites listed at all.

I've added http://traveltimes.co.uk to the Trusted sites (unchecking the box
entitled "Require server verification (https:) for all sites on this zone").

I've just found that I can't access
http://www.penguin.co.uk/?id=email&link=greet_pencouk either - same
problem - starts to Open page, then "connecting to site, then "Cannot find
server".

As you have probably guessed, they are both innocuous sites - The Times
newspaper and Penguin book site.

Lost for words, but thanks for your suggestions.

Don,

I can also get to
http://www.penguin.co.uk/?id=email&link=greet_pencouk
but you didn't want to hear that. ;-)

When all else fails...

Update your antivirus software and run a full system scan.

Do the same for whatever anti-spyware applications that you have.

Also you may want to try posting here...
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie6.browser
or
microsoft.com/microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie6.browser

if you're using a different news server.

Tell 'em what you have already tried.

Hi Zoomer :)

Try the following and see if it helps:

Log on as Administrator:

Control Panel> IE Options>Advanced Tab>Browsing section>Check disable
script
debugging>UnCheck "Display a notification about every script
error">Apply>OK out.

Allow active content to run in files on My Computer - Windows XP Service
Pack 2:

and.....

You might want to refresh your scripting engine:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/downloads/list/webdev.asp
Windows Script 5.6 for Windows 2000 and XP
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...43-7e4b-4622-86eb-95a22b832caa&DisplayLang=en

Go to Control Panel>Add/Remove programs and check to see if Macromedia
Flash
Player and Macromedia Shockwave Player is listed. If so, uninstall and
them, then reinstall the latest version of the Macromedia Flash Player 8
here: (WARNING: Unless you really want the Yahoo toolbar (not recommended)
then be sure that you UNcheck the box next to the "Yahoo toolbar" before
downloading and installing)
http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash
See if that helps.

Also, if you have SpywareBlaster...

Go to Tools on the left panel>Flash Killer
Make sure the box next to Disable Macromedia Flash is UNchecked

Hope this helps.

Hi folks,
I cannot log on to the timesonline site.
http://travel.timesonline.co.uk/section/0,,15849,00.html
(It takes ages to load, then I get a completely blank page with
'Done'
in the bottom left corner (next to a Internet Explorer icon).

I have no custom hosts file to my knowledge. (I have had the computer

I've emptied my Temporary Internet Files inc. all offline content and
deleted cookies.

I've just found that I can't access

http://www/jetix.co.uk either - same
problem - starts to Open page, then "connecting to site, then "Cannot
find

As you have probably guessed, the above sites are quite innocuous.

However, I can access most other sites.

After about 20-30 seconds, I still get the 'Done' sign

Any suggestions as to how I can fix the problem? (In simple terms - for a
computer dinosaur!)
(Windows XP SP2, IE6 Athlon 3200, 1.5Gb RAM )

TIA
