Time and Date error message for MS updates/sasser

Hello!
I have the sasser worm on my compaq running WinXP. I
tried a number of fixes this newsgroup was kind enough to
suggest but none of them have detected the worm yet. I am
ready to use the Microsoft removal tool but I have to
install an update first. I can't install my updates b/c I
get the time and date error message from the microsoft
update site. My time and time zone, and date are correct.
Any suggestions?
Any help would be appreciated.
(p.s.- I dug through several pages looking for similar
problems but I haven't found the fix for this problem
yet.)
Thanks!

Kate - It sounds like you have more than just Sasser, or you have one of
the fast-multiplying variants. Try downloading the latest fix from
Symantec here:

http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data
w32.sasser.removal.tool.html

Note that the url wraps in my newsreader and you'll need to enter it
into your browser's addressbar on one line.

You should try downloading the fix and the patch from Microsoft on a
different, clean machine and burn the files to a cd-r. Then you won't
have to worry about your computer not connecting.

Here is the url for the Microsoft patch:

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/MS04-011.mspx -
TechNet bulletin with download links

AFAIK, it isn't on Windows Update yet. If this doesn't take care of
things, you have more going on and should probably take the machine to
a professional for cleaning.

Good luck,

Malke
