Tile Windows Vertically in Windows XP

I have a widescreen display and find it useful to display two Windows
Explorer windows side-by-side like this:
_____ ______
| || |
| || |
| || |
|____||____|

No problem, I thought. Simply open the two windows, left-click the first
icon on the taskbar, ctrl-left click on the second, then right-click and
select tile vertically.

Perfect. Except the first window (with the icon on the LEFT) appears on the
RIGHT-hand side of the screen, and the second window (with the icon on the
RIGHT) appears on the LEFT-hand side. Every time. Confusing, huh?

The same happens with two Word windows, two different windows (e.g. one Word
and one Windows Explorer) etc. And it happens the same every time no matter
which icon you select first, no matter which one you right-click over etc.

Any comments re. a workaround or a fix?

Carey,
Thanks for the suggestion. I've got this; unfortunately what I want to do is
display the two windows side-by-side on the same desktop - it's irritating
that the icon on the left is arranged on the right-hand side of the screen,
and the icon on the right is on the left-hand side.

Can't you just open each window, size it accordingly then move them side by
side on the screen? That's what I do when I want to do this. Takes a few
seconds longer, but works every time.

Rebecca,

Thanks. Can do, but it seems kinda daft that Windows seems to be set up to
tile them the "wrong way wround". Guess this is an appeal to MS to modify
Windows...

Windows will be Tiled based on the "upper left corner" position of the
window. The "buttons" on the task bar are positioned based on the order
the applications were opened. Now that you know how it works, you make
take appropriate action.
