Thumbs.db internals

Where can I find the internal layout of the Thumbs.db files
so that I can extract the thumbnails out of them? A
Thumbs.db file appears to be an OLE storage object
containing abbreviated JPEG files, but the quantization and
Huffman tables are missing. Are these tables the same for
all Thumbs.db files, if so, what do they contain?

I don't know how to extract info from the thumbs.db files
but if you still have the original images, PolyView can
extract thumbs from them.

Here's the link for the program:

PolyView
www.polybytes.com

With PolyView open...go to...Thumbnails (on the toolbar)
/ Thumbnails Explorer.

In the file tree on the left of your screen, navigate to
the folder that contains the image files.

You should see some squares with file names in the
right pane. Go to...Edit / Select All.

Now go to...Thumbnails / Create Selected.
This should make the thumbs visible in the right pane.

With the thumbs showing and selected...go to...
File / Export Thumbnails...

In the Export Thumbnails window...select a folder
to save the files in. Click...OK.
