Thumbnails not showing in folder

When i open a folder with pictures JPEG in it and set the
view to thumbnails instead of showing a miniture picture
of the image only the logo of the program in this case
internet explorer is shown. This hapens only with JPEG
Pictures BMP pictures are shown correctly ie the
miniture picture is shown.

This happens when the default association for jpg files is changed usually from installing Image software and allowing them to associate to file types. PaintShop Pro and Adobe Photoshop are good examples of applications which do this and lead to the problem you mention.

The way this is normally fixed is to:

Start | Run | regsvr32 thumbvw.dll | OK | OK. If that doesn't do it then in the registry make sure:

Start | Run | regedit | OK | + on HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT | navigate to and select the .jpg key | make sure:

Name: (Default)
Type: REG_SZ
Data: image/jpeg

And finally do not let your image programs associate any image types to themselves. You can right-click and Open With... instead. This will avoid the issue from happening in the future.

Two ideas:
First - sometimes large JPEG images take a loooooooong time to show up.
Second - when saving JPEGs from Photoshop, there is an option of removing
the preview; your images may have been limited in this way.
