Thumbnail view not working

I have about 300 photos in the 'my pictures' file on an emachine running XP.
I recently added 2 photos and I now I cannot see the individual photos as
thumbnails. When I switch views all I get is hundreds of little boxes with an
orange sunset and a sailboat. I've switch views to tile, icon, thumbnails and
I cannot get back the thumbnail view of the photos. They are all jpegs. Any
thoughts.

Try this, maybe it will restore the option:

go to...Start / Run and type:

"REGSVR32 SHIMGVW.DLL"
(without the quotes)(Yes, there's
a space between 2 and S)

Click...OK.

A dialog box should report the following:

"DllRegisterServer in SHIMGVW.DLL succeeded"

I'm having exactly the same problem, the only way I can view an image is if I
actualy open up photoimpact and that annoys the h''l out of me. I tried
John's suggestion but it didn't work. I'm prity much a novise at the really
technical stuff but I think it all started when windows updated it's self.
Could this be a windows error rather than something I've done?
Any experts out there? All help mappreshiated.
Abi.
