When I try using IE6 to open up certain sites, such as
classmates.com, i get this error message:

The page cannot be displayed
The page you are looking for is currently unavailable.
The Web site might be experiencing technical
difficulties, or you may need to adjust your browser
settings.

Please try the following:

Click the Refresh button, or try again later.

If you typed the page address in the Address bar, make
sure that it is spelled correctly.

To check your connection settings, click the Tools menu,
and then click Internet Options. On the Connections tab,
click Settings. The settings should match those provided
by your local area network (LAN) administrator or
Internet service provider (ISP).
If your Network Administrator has enabled it, Microsoft
Windows can examine your network and automatically
discover network connection settings.
If you would like Windows to try and discover them,
click Detect Network Settings
Some sites require 128-bit connection security. Click the
Help menu and then click About Internet Explorer to
determine what strength security you have installed.
If you are trying to reach a secure site, make sure your
Security settings can support it. Click the Tools menu,
and then click Internet Options. On the Advanced tab,
scroll to the Security section and check settings for SSL
2.0, SSL 3.0, TLS 1.0, PCT 1.0.
Click the Back button to try another link.

Cannot find server or DNS Error

When I use Compuserve, which we are about to cancel, it
works. I am really dumb with computers, so any help
would be appreciated.

thanks,

hey vince, u cud try some of these steps:

1. Make sure you have enough bytes being sent and
received, slow connection speeds can also cause these
problems.

2. Clear your Temporary internet files and cookies.
3. Make sure your modem has bps set at 57600 or 116200

Hope this helps

I have two computers hooked up by wireless, broadband (cable) and on one I
can go to a specific web page, and on the other I can't. The site is
www.classmates.com, and like I said I can access it on the other computer so
I know its working, and its not blocking me.

I get the Page cannot be displayed. Among the things that it says is
"scroll to the Security section and check settings for SSL 2.0, SSL 3.0, TLS
1.0, PCT 1.0. " should be checked in Tool/Advanced, the check box is not
checked on TLS 1.0 so I checked that and still didn't work. Went back and
clicked default box. Still doesn't work. Any ideas.

See the kb article 813442. There i some problem with a
part of XP. You should re-register oen or more .dll's.
First to try is softpub.dll with the command

regsvr32 softpub.dll

See the article for more files to re-register.
